Sussex Police, Surrey & Sussex Probation Trust and Health colleagues are
pleased to invite you to a briefing session about the new Sussex Health
and Criminal Justice Liaison Scheme on Thursday 29th March 2012 between
10.00am and 1.00pm at Sussex County Cricket Ground, Hove.
At the briefing you will hear more about the current Liaison and
Diversion Services available across Sussex and our ambitious plans to
extend these services. These proposals, as well as extending the current
services geographically, will re-design processes to bring together
Substance Misuse, Mental Health and Learning Disability together into a
cohesive service which addresses an offenders wide-ranging needs rather
than endeavouring to identify a single primary need.
We are holding 2 more separate briefing sessions to meet with your
colleagues in East and West Sussex, as we are keen to ensure that
localised solutions are developed to address locally identified needs.
As well as extending the Liaison and Diversion assessment element of the
services available we are also
* Developing processes to appropriately divert Offenders away from
the Criminal Justice System at the earliest opportunity
* Seeking to identify care-pathways to support Offenders both at
the Diversion and Sentencing ends of the process
As representatives of Brighton and Hove Community Voluntary
Organisations, your involvement in this event is vital to ensure that we
are able to develop robust and well-constructed processes and care
pathways that address clearly identified local needs.
There will also be colleagues on hand from many of the statutory
organisations to enable discussions around the continuation of building
links between the Voluntary and Statutory sectors across Brighton and
The Sussex Liaison and Diversion Scheme is part of a much larger
national project being overseen by the Department of Health as part of
their Liaison and Diversion Scheme Development Network. This is an
excellent opportunity for you all to increase the profile of your
Community Voluntary Organisation and to be involved in shaping National
best practice for the future in this increasingly high profile arena.
